This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required to undertake work using a side by side utility vehicle used for general transport, carrying loads, towing small trailers and mustering stock.
All work must be carried out to comply with workplace procedures, work health and safety requirements manufacturer’s specifications and sustainability practices.
This unit applies to individuals who work under general supervision and exercise limited autonomy with some accountability for their own work. They undertake defined activities and work in a structured context.
No occupational licensing, legislative or certification requirements are known to apply to this unit at the time of publication.

1. Prepare side by side utility vehicle for use |
1.1 Confirm the activity to be undertaken with supervisor, including identifying safe working areas, potential hazards and implementation of safe working procedures 1.2 Conduct safety pre operational checks on the vehicle and report faults or malfunctions for repair 1.3 Use and maintain personal protective equipment 1.4 Attach equipment and loads that do not exceed the weight limitations or change the dynamic stability of the vehicle 1.5 Secure loads and ensure weight does not exceed limits |
2. Operate side by side utility vehicle |
2.1 Operate machinery and equipment in a safe, efficient and controlled manner 2.2 Operate side by side utility vehicles in accordance with task requirements, conditions and manufacturers operating guidelines 2.3 Assess and minimise potential risks to self, others and the environment 2.4 Ensure that the vehicles seat belts and other safety features are functional and used 2.5 Identify and account for environmental implications associated with machinery operation |
