Yalga-binbi Institute for Community Development

yalga binbi
Yalga-binbi comes from the Birigubba language - yalga means road, path or way, binbi means good or truthful.

Yalga-binbi History

Yalga-binbi was established by the Uniting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Christian Congress (UAICC) of the Uniting Church of Australia as an independent, incorporated organisation.

It supports the development of Indigenous communities and organisations, and the training and employment of Indigenous people, especially in the northern regions of Queensland.

In 2005 the Yalga-binbi Training Unit was established to support this aim.

The Institute has more than fifteen years experience in providing training, management advice and other community development resources to Indigenous communities and in resourcing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander (ATSI) organisations and communities in the process of community development.

Vision

Yalga-binbi Institute for Community Development will promote positive social transformation and help empower people to build better, healthier and stronger Indigenous communities which ultimately will have greater economic and social autonomy, political power and control over their future development.

Management

Members of the Yalga-binbi Institute Committee of Management are drawn from throughout Queensland, the majority from North Queensland including the Gulf and Cape regions. Currently, all members are Indigenous.
